Suite for Piano, Op.7, No.1 ‘Entrata’ in D minor - Julius Röntgen (1855 – 1932)

Julius Röntgen was a prolific German-Dutch composer of classical music. He has left a mark on Dutch musical life, as a composer, pianist, conductor, concert promoter and educator. He became associated with the Amsterdam Conservatory, which he founded in 1884. Röntgen was heavily involved in the foundation of the Concertgebouw. During the last years of his life Röntgen lived in Gaudeamus in Bilthoven, a villa designed by his son Frants. Here he could apply himself even more vigorously to composing. On other levels too he remained active until the end and Gaudeamus became a venue for musical activities: he received guests there, held house concerts and hosted analysis courses, a forerunner of the activities which would be organised by the Gaudeamus Foundation later on.

Jabiz Hafizi, was born in Tehran. After completing her study in Industrial Engineering she decided to pursue her childhood passion and dream to become a professional pianist (however, Iran has its own traditional and cultural influences within music leaving little or no room for western classical music) Therefore she had a strong intention to study abroad specially in Western Europe in order to broaden her knowledge and skills. In 2016 She graduated her Bachelor`s degree in classic Piano Performance from Utrecht conservatory under the guidance of Prof. Martyn Van den Hoek. She also followed several masterclasses and workshops with Enrico Pace, Alan Weis, Henry Kelder, Deborah Nemko, José María Curbelo González, Marco & Rafaelle Terlizzi, , among others. Furthermore, she has received lessons in Jazz Improvisation with Rembrandt Frerichs. In 2019 Jabiz received her Master's degree at the Maastricht Conservatory under the guidance of professor Joop Celis. Her Master research project was a production based on mixing genres, combination of Schubert lied and Persian style. As she believes that in the current political situation, where east and west are being forced to mix and are struggling to accept each other’s cultural differences, it is more important than ever to introduce distant cultures to different folks through arts. She considers it her mission as a musician to contribute to this with her performances. In October 2019, she was invited as a guest to give a lecture about her successful Master research to Master students of the Maastricht Conservatory. After her graduation she started a project called ‘Rumi Cycle’ which has been commissioned by Gaudeamus Music festival in Utrecht. The project was a song cycle consist of 7 songs related to ‘7 Valleys of Love’ based on Rumi`s poetry from his book 'Masnavi'.
