Ayọ is a Nigerian-German singer/songwriter and actress. She was born Joy Olasunmibo Ogumakin, and Ayọ is
the Yoruba translation of her first name, Joy — after which she also named her first album, Joyful, released
in 2006, which included her first hit: “Down on My Knees.” She’s recorded four more albums since; her most recent, 2017’s “AYO,” talks of peace and positivity, of “trusting life,” but also includes the song “Boom Boom,” which
she wrote after the Ferguson events to denounce racial inequity and police violence in the US. As an actress
she played the lead role in Murder in Pacot by by Haitian filmmaker Raoul Peck. She will perform accompanied by guitarist Marvin Dolly.
